Program Files 1937-1975; 1961-1970.

This series comprises additional program files related to Papua New Guinea mission work of The American Lutheran Church (TALC). The records are from 1937-1970 with the majority dating from 1961-1970. Most of these records were retained by the Division for World Mission of TALC, but several records were donated by Miriam Woolbert, TALC missionary to Papua New Guinea from 1962-1964. Types of records include handwritten and typewritten business correspondence, topical essays and reports, progress reports, meeting minutes, work agreements, and artwork drawn by mission school children. Topics include the aviation missionary fellowship program, Bible translation, administrative matters regarding the mission's medical and educational programs, reports from field trips, and an interesting incident involving a bell taken during World War II from the chapel at the Neuendettelsau Mission and returned by the U.S. Navy in 1969. The records donated by Ms. Woolbert may or may not be duplicates of material found in other TALC series related to Papua New Guinea. Architectural drawings of the Madang Memorial Chapel were removed from box 2, folder 11 and placed in an oversized folder marked "TALC 14/8/3/1/9" in mapcase area.
